Late nights......

I've been keeping some pretty late hours recently. Some of it is due to worrying about my kids and grand kids.....don't know why I do it though. I guess because once a mom always a mom as the saying goes.

Some of it is because no matter what position I was attempting to get in, I just wasn't comfortable. At least not comfortable enough to be able to fall asleep. And I felt....I don't know, just an all over restlessness. Hubby asked me if it was because of muscle spasms in my upper back. I told him 'no', but the more I thought about it and the more we talked about my restlessness he reminded me that this is exactly the way I acted before it was really bad requiring a trip to the E.R. just to get some relief. He started the pressure point pushing on my back and found some pretty painful spots and that brought the pain threshold down a bit, but not enough to be able to sleep. Then we remembered the left over pain medication from my last visit and dug them out of the bottom of the case and they hadn't reached their expiration date so I took a couple. Within an hour I was much more comfortable and was able to sit still.

I wonder if the reason I don't recognize it for what it is is because the pain never totally goes away and I just get used to it and am able to tolerate it until it gets to the point where I have to acknowledge it. what ever the reason, I just wish the spasms would end for good!

After the birth of my son 21 years ago. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia secondary to my RA. Very painful. I had six hot spots on my back. Rhematologist diagnosed it fairly quickly. I don't know if this is true but I think I recall him saying the lack of sleep from having a newborn had contributed to this disease.

I'm very sorry that you are going through this. I hope that the discomfort ends for you and soon. What has a doctor said about this? Could you receive treatment besides medication? I'm not very familiar with muscle spasms. Since the pain is continuous, it probably is difficult for you to notice before it becomes severe. I'm glad that hubby was able to remind you of that.

Warm, healing hugs!

janet c. ~ back pain is awful....do you still suffer with back pain?

the editor ~ they tried physical therapy for it and that helped for a brief period. The doctor says it's from the way they had me bent backwards during open-heart surgery for 8 hours....and muscles remember and when I do something that reminds the muscles of that movement it triggers it. I have what they call a tens unit...it's a small battery powered electical device that send small shocks to the muscles but unless hubby is home to help get it on or stays up late to help take it off...I can't use it! Thanks for your concern and the warm healing hugs! Hugs back!
